Ken Weingardt

Dr. Weingardt currently serves as National Director for Mental Health Web Services in the Veterans Health Administration. His team is responsible for developing innovative web-based self-help programs and mobile apps to support the Mental Health needs of Veterans and their families. Prior to his current position, Dr. Weingardt served as Associate Director of the Program Evaluation and Resource Center (PERC) at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. PERC conducts system-wide monitoring and evaluation of substance abuse treatment services in VHA. He also serves as a Affiliate Investigator at the Center for Health Care Evaluation (CHCE; www.chce.research.va.qov}, and holds an appointment as Consulting Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Weingardt maintains an active program of Health Services research, with a particular emphasis on using internet and mobile technologies to support the implementation of evidence-based mental health practices. This includes investigating how technology can be used to enhance the effectiveness of clinical training, how internet resources can be used to facilitate patient engagement and self-care, and how the implementation of new technologies is influenced by the social and organizational context of care. Current projects focus on evaluating various patient-facing internet programs, including an online program for pain self-management (Robert Kerns, Pl}, and a Brief Alcohol Interventions for Veterans being treated in in Liver clinics (Keith Humpreys, Pl}, as well as a project in the UK that is developing online training in evidence based treatments for depression and Eating Disorders (Christopher Fairburn, Pl)
